NEW PERSPECTIVE ON DESIGN

The man who set Lowlands on fire last month, Pharrell Williams has designed this chair to represent the love between a man and a woman. Pharrell says:

“I had often wondered what it’s like to truly be in love, not lust for once. So I decided not to ask what it was like in someone else’s shoes or what it was like to sit in their seat. I decided to sketch out my own experiment; the perspective chair.”

That's almost as deep as the chair.

san francisco's house of falling furniture

since 1997, the building sitting at the corner of 6th st. and howard st. in san fransiscio,
california has been a sculptural mural. the piece consists of tables, chairs, lamps and
even a grandfather clock, all hanging precariously out of the building’s windows. known as
‘defenestration’ (a word meaning to throw out of a window) the sculpture’s various pieces
are all fastened to the abandoned building to create the illusion of falling. The pieces was
conceived of by local artist brian goggin.

The Love Mattress

How many times have you found yourself with the candles warmly lit, Al Green on rotation and snuggling up with that someone special in bed, only to find an important limb or two fallen asleep under the weight of your partner? We love cuddling up, but the muscles, blood vessels and nerves in our arms often pay a painful price for a few minutes in heavenly embrace. Cue in Mehdi Mojtabavi's Love Mattress, a 2007 red dot award design concept winner.

The Love Mattress allows for easy access and comfortable embracing, except the Love Mattress has a series of gaps to allow body....ahem...parts to comfortably rest inside. Made of modules of polyurethane injected foam, the mattress is easily transportable and should provide ample body support (though we wonder if like memory foam, this would get too hot).

We'll leave all the other possibilities and options to your imagination.

the Most Creative Bookshelves Designs

Skateboard shelf is a piece of furniture that every skateboard lover would tell your that is awesome. I know that because last month I’ve meet someone who is in love with skateboarding, and he fall in love with this piece of furniture. Perfect for students and kids, it provides substantial storage space for books, display and even skateboard paraphernalia.

Storyline Shelf is designed by Frederik Roijé and is an excellent solution to store your books in a modern way. Sound finds a physical identity in the beautifully crafted Storyline bookshelf. By first processing a word into soundwaves, the physical shape is then mirrored in powder-coated steel, using an explicit folding technique. Appropriately enough, the word that inspired this lovely piece was “bliss”

Hanging Bookself is an innovative storage design for your books from unal&boler studio. Something that Ididn’t saw before. This system can’t replace a whole bookcase, but two of three systems of storage like this could be fun to hang somewhere in your home.

U Bend Shelf is a great example of an extremely simple design. A single bar that extends from the wall which will support your books in a discrete and stable way, the first of them being used to fix the others. The shelf is available in two high gloss powder coated finishes, black or white, and the price for this shelf is $95. I think that this is a great way to store some books in a small room.

The Equation Bookshelf is designed by Marcos Breder and is a simple idea of to divide things in priority order. As you can see the design is quite unique, stylish and original. You can put together the books that you need immediately or more important between (parentheses) or maybe a photo, or something important for you to be the focal point of this bookselhf. Set others between [square brackets] and {braces}.

Now this design might look cool for the eye, but I don’t think you can stay to relaxed in that space, I’d rather stay in a comfortable chair. The “Shelves with a Bench” was designed by Stanislav Katz, a designer from Latvia.

The Ceiling Bookshelf is a great idea to store your books if your space is limited. As you can see a place that 99,9% of people don’t use can be used in a very practical way to store your books, and save a lot of space in any room. The ceiling bookshelf is an idea that can be applied quite easy. However, in order to get a book, you have to use a chair. Finnaly let’s hope that the ceiling bookshelf will not reserve us unpleasant and unexpected surprises, like a book falling from the ceiling.

This Multi-functional shelf design by Yoon-Zee Kim is a playful and creative piece of furniture. You can use it as a shelving system or a seating and a desk. This piece of furniture has a modern look, doesn’t take to much space and is a very clever idea that looks nice.

this is taken from freshome's 30 of the Most Creative Bookselves Designs...for the complete list click on the title for the link.

Casulo: An Entire Apartment's Furniture in One Small Box

totally love Casulo, the total concept and the apartment in a box thingy... then it would b so much easier to move... i can still remember the days when i have to move from a place to another for 2 times in a month... that's totalleee stressful.... settling down jus for a week and yet not totalleee the nex thing i know is i gotta move out again... once again... the packing up and carrying all the stuffs.... geeez... how i wished i've got a Casulo~ haha.... but to purchase one here would definiteleee costs more than the place and the stuffs i have~

What's Casulo?

CASULO is a complete set of room furniture which can be set up in less than ten minutes and later disassembled and repacked like a standard Euro pallet of 80 cm by 120 cm. No tools are needed in the process.
A packed CASULO can be transported and stored at nominal expense by any carrier and shipping agent. Not only can a disassembled CASULO unit be packed with one’s personal items. The CASULO itself is sturdy and thus no additional packaging materials are necessary when it is ready for transport. The CASULO can then either be sent to a prearranged address or delivered directly to one’s flat. Two people can lift, carry, and assemble each piece of furniture within the CASULO. The unit is constructed of durable, long-lasting materials. A CASULO offers a solution for today’s style of life - “Here today – must move tomorrow.”
